Obituary for Allen Maynard Howard

Allen Maynard Howard, 82, a life-long resident of Battle Creek, was called to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 1st, 2022. He was born on November 3rd, 1939, the son of Maynard Howard and Edna Marion Howard.

Allen attended Battle Central High School and later received his GED. He was a trained heavy equipment mechanic who could always be found tinkering with something in the garage. He was truly an all-around handyman who could fix anything. He retired from the City of Battle Creek, Water Department in 1999.

Allen, known as ‘Big AL’ to many, loved people. You could never forget his laughter, storytelling, and big bear hugs affectionately known as the ‘Howard Hug’. He loved a good meal, and never turned down second helpings, especially porterhouse steak. He loved being outdoors, camping and building a bonfire for all to gather, and talk about life. He loved animals and had many different pets throughout his time, most notably a special dog named Snickers. Allen loved life, and his family dearly. It was truly evident through his positive nature and joyous character. He will truly be missed by his family and friends. May we find peace in knowing that he is resting in heaven.

Allen is survived by his beautiful wife, Linda Howard; son, Adam Howard; daughter, Allena (Howard) Myers; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Day Howard; son-in-law, Jimmy Myers; sister, Clarice Traylor; sister, Shirleyann Zobian; grandchildren, Abigail Howard, Lillian Howard, Jacob Howard; and great grandchildren, Annilise Howard, and Charlotte Howard.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister, Vera Hickok.
