Obituary for Anna May Stevens

Anna graduated from Marshall High School in 1965, and then attended Kellogg
Community College.
Anna met her future husband, Robert Stevens, while cruising downtown Battle Creek.
They married on February 24th, 1968 and went on to have two children, Martin Stevens
and Heidi Parmelee.
Anna worked for many years in the Harper Creek School system and served in a variety
of roles. While with the schools, she worked with adults with developmental disabilities,
was a copy clerk, served children in the reading recovery program, and also was an
elementary school secretary.
She dedicated her life to her family. While her children were young, she volunteered at
their elementary school and was involved with the school’s PTA. She was one of the
co-founders of the still popular Harper Holly Days craft show. She served as a youth
group leader for St. Phillip Catholic Church for many years. Anna also was a 4-H leader
teaching countless children how to sew and make a variety of crafts.
Anna’s love of crafting was evident throughout her entire life. She loved sewing,
cross-stitch, and chair caning. Despite her declining eye-sight, she was still creating
beautiful holiday wreaths to share with family and friends. She also loved to read, and
enjoyed attending car shows with her husband.
Anna was known for her generous heart, smile, and laughter. She loved all children,
especially her grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Frances Walbeck, her
father-in-law and mother-in-law Harold and Mary Stevens, her sisters Elizabeth Walbeck
and Teresa Walbeck, her brother Thomas Walbeck, her sisters-in-law Lynda Walbeck
and Virginia Stevens, and brother-in-law Curtis Stevens.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Stevens; son Martin (Leola) Stevens; Heidi
(Robert) Parmelee; grandchildren Andrew, Nicholas, Anderson, Jessica, Michael,
Emmanuelle, Derek, Jesse, and James; and great-granddaughter Aylee; brothers John
Walbeck, Kathie Walbeck, Richard (Deb) Walbeck, Timothy (Deb) Walbeck, Michael (Kathy) Walbeck, and Robert (Lynn) Walbeck; in-laws George and Lois McAllan; and
many beloved nieces and nephews.
