Obituary for Anthony Michael Calderone

Anthony Michael Calderone, 79, of Battle Creek, Michigan, died on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born on June 18, 1938, the son of Santo Calderone and Beulah (Magnotta) Calderone.
Tony attended Battle Creek public schools and graduated from St. Philip Catholic High School in 1956. He was very proud to be a part of St. Philip championship football team. Tony attended St. Joseph College and then graduated from Notre Dame Law School 1963. He first learned the value of hard work at his father's family business: Albion Beverage. He worked many summers there and all through college to not only support himself but the local family business as well. After school he worked for Raymond and John Allen then went on to become Assistant Prosecutor for Calhoun County. Tony then formed a Private Law Practice where he served his community for 40 years. He was president of the Italian American club and the Bar Association, among many others. Tony was a very active parishioner at St. Philip Catholic Church and loved being involved in the different activities.
Tony is survived by his Wife of 58 years - Sandra Jo Calderone; two Sons, Santo (Carol) Calderone, Michael (Lesa) Calderone; six Daughters, Catherine (John) Harper, Teresa (Greg) Lohmeier, Marie Angela Calderone, Elizabeth (Richard Jr.) Holmberg, Ashleigh Calderone, and Ciara Calderone; 21 Grandchildren; 6 Great-Grandchildren; Sister, Catherine (Thomas) Basso; Sister-in-Law, Anne Stanfield and a host of cousins, friends, and other loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his Sister, Marianne Sztengel.
He liked to fish, hunt, and spend time with family. Tony was an extraordinary cook and anyone who knew him knew that. He enjoyed being active in his community and reaching out as a mentor and father figure to many. He also enjoyed traveling for many years; in fact he and Sandy renewed their wedding vows to celebrate their 50th anniversary in San Biagio Platani, Sicily. Tony was a man with a heart of gold and he will be dearly missed by all those he has touched throughout his life.
A funeral mass will be held at the St. Philip Catholic Church, 112 Capital Ave., NE, on Monday, March 26, 2018, at 11:00 am with Father John Fleckenstein of Saint Philip Catholic Church officiating.
Memorials may be made to: St. Philips Endowment Foundation or the Autism Society of Kalamazoo/Battle Creek.
