Obituary for Arlene Andrews (Monroe)

Arlene Andrews, 88, of Battle Creek, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at The Laurels of Bedford. She was born on September 21, 1933, the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Randolph) Monroe.

Arlene was an active member of the Upton Avenue Church of God. She served on the Usher Board (Vice President), Nurses Unit, Mothers Board and helped in the kitchen. For many years, she worked as a teachers aide for the Battle Creek Public Schools, and part time as a housekeeper for Custom Steel and Motor Shop Electric. On October 19, 1956, she married, Johnny Lee Andrews in Cairo, GA, he preceded her in death in 2000.

Arlene is survived by her children, Carla Crite, Vicki (Nolan) Hall, Michael (Tonya) Andrews, Juan Andrews; grandchildren, Trenton Tate, Briana Paige, Victor Andrews, Nolan Hall II, Danielle Mitchell, Deanna Andrews, Mattie West; former daughter-in-law, Dorothy Johnson; best friends, Ruby Williams and Sara Lee; special friend, Scott Kerr and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johnny Lee Andrews; son, Johnny Andrews and siblings, Amanda Bradley, William Monroe, Charlye Anderson, Charles Monroe and Jeffrey Monroe.

Arlene was a self-taught master of doing hair. She was famous for her lemon cake with hot lemon frosting and 7-Up cake. She was also known for beating any opponent in cards or board games. She had a passion for teaching children to read and write. In the neighborhood her house always had open doors for any and all children to come when needed. She was a woman of God and served her church faithfully. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

At this time, cremation has taken place and no services are being held.
