Obituary for Basil Gordan Nunnally

Basil Gordan Nunnally passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 17, 2022. Basil was born to loving parents Anderson and Betty Nunnally on March 17, 1940. He attended Washington Elementary, Ann J. Kellogg and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1958.

Basil married the late Patricia Nunnally and they had two children, Susan (Brian) McCall and the late Anthony Nunnally Sr. Basil is survived by three grandchildren and six great grandchildren, along with his brother, Michael Nunnally and his special lifelong friend, Bobby Holley. Basil is also survived by his current wife, E. Lee Graves and stepdaughter, Teresa V. (Doug) Smith.

Basil had the good fortune to be mentored by the late Coach Al Leibert, who played a significant role in his life and the lives of his friends. As a result, Basil developed a taste for sports and played baseball, basketball, football, and tennis. But his real love became slow pitch softball. He played for many years and into his 70's with some of his elementary school friends, and new ones he met throughout his life's journey. Basil traveled throughout the US playing in tournaments, including several Senior Olympics events.

Basil was blessed with many friends. Lee's later sister, Marcia Foster was an MSU graduate and fan. Basil was a Spartan fan and they loved going to the basketball and football games together. Basil attended many Tiger games, and several World Series games through his friendship with Charlie Newel and Mike Reilly, retired MLB umpire.

Basil worked over 38 years at the Kellogg Company. After he retired, he went to breakfast with his fellow retirees and other friends 3 days a week.

Per Basil's request there will be no service or visitation. Those who knew and loved him will miss that guy with the toothpick.
