Callie Kerr was born in Oberlin, Louisiana on 07/29/1911 to Isaac and Ellen Quill. She was the second oldest of seven children. She relocated to Beaumont, Texas in 1928 until 1939 when she moved to Detroit, Michigan. In January, 1955 she moved to Albion, Michigan until January, 2007 when she moved to Marshall, Michigan until July, 2011 when she moved to Battle Creek, Michigan.
She was a member of Neapolitan Spiritual Church in Detroit and later Leggett Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Albion, Michigan – a loyal soldier in the army of the LORD who promoted God’s kingdom both in church and in the communities where she lived. She leaves to celebrate her life: Three daughters: Mrs. Gloria M. Woods of Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Gloria D. Branch of Beaumont, Texas, seven grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Her motto: Give me my flowers while I live.
Sometimes a person who has done something extraordinary receives a trophy for an outstanding achievement or a medal for conduct going beyond the call of duty. Her life is symbolic of a trophy and a medal to her family and friends that was nurtured in hope, faith, patience, love, perseverance, strength, forgiveness, wisdom and the power of prayer. It was on display as a witness to God’s goodness, forgiveness, mercy, grace, and love. This is her legacy. The dawning of her new day began 08/28/2011
