Obituary for Chantena Kinney (Redditt)
Chantena Kinney (affectionately known as Tena), 63, Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023. She was born on May 10, 1960, the daughter of William Redditt and Algen Jean (Smith) Redditt.
Tena graduated from Douglas High School in Memphis, Tennessee. She later moved to Battle Creek, Michigan, where she married LeRoy Kinney in 1986. Tena earned her Associates degree in Nursing and worked many years as an LPN. Tena also held many jobs in the community as an LPN. She recently retired from the VA Medical Center after 30+ years. While emplpyed at the VA, she served as an avid Union Stewart of Local AFGE 1629, where she advocated for equality and justice for all. In September 2010 she became a member of International Free and Accepted Modern Masons, Inc. and Order of the Eastern Star. She belonged to the Ruth Cotton Chapter 216.
Tena loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed traveling and shopping.
Tena is survived by her husband, LeRoy Kinney; daughters, Chanelle D. (Antonio D.) Goodman, ChaQuita L. (Michael B. Mason Jr. ) Kinney; six grandchildren; sisters, Unita Redditt and Brenda Vaughn, both of Memphis, Tennessee; and brothers, Robert Smith of Battle Creek, Michigan, and William Redditt of Atlanta, Georgia.
Tena was preceded in death by her father, William Redditt; mother, Algen (Jean) Redditt; and brother Alfonso Redditt.
Family Hour will take place at the Baxter Funeral and Cremation Service, on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 pm.
Interment will take place at Reese Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI.
Repast to follow at the Baxter Funeral and Cremation Service.
