David Jerry Helmer, 82, was called home to our Savior Jesus Christ on December 28, 2020. He was born on May 15, 1938 in Kalamazoo, MI, the oldest of two children to Otis and Ruth I. Helmer.
David was an active member of Grace Community Church in Battle Creek and previously participated in the Royal Rangers. He retired from Marshall Brass after several years of service. While working, he met his wife, Vera and they later married, spending 40 plus years of marriage together.
David is survived by his Wife, Vera A. Helmer; Children, Jean Wilson of Galesburg, MI, Daniel Helmer, April (Mark) Riemann both of Bedford, VA; Step Sons, Tim Brenner of Beebe, AR, Scott (Chris) Brenner of Battle Creek, MI; Grandchildren, Rebecca, Allison, Colin, Emily; 4 Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents and Sister, Susan Russell.
David enjoyed golfing, deer hunting, flying kites, taking care of his yard, painting, spending time with his family, and collecting stones while exploring the lake shores in Michigan with his wife.
At this time due to the current pandemic, a memorial service to celebrate the life of David will be held later in 2021.
