Obituary for David Elliott Hilyard

David Elliott Hilyard, 69, of Battle Creek ended his 7+ year battle with cancer, for which he fought valiantly until his last breath. He was born May 19, 1953 to Theodore and Adeline (Stiede) Hilyard. He grew up in Barry County and graduated from Hastings High school in 1971.

On May 21, 1983 he married the love of his life, Gloria Lynn Hall. David worked at Drake's Batter Mix in Marshall, MI for 35 years. He loved to fish, hunt, and take long walks around town. He also loved to watch sports, especially his Detroit Lions, Tigers, and Michigan Wolverines. But mostly he loved God and his family. David worked hard for his wife, daughters, and his niece to make sure they had everything they needed. The most important thing is that he knew God as his loving Savior, and because of this we know we will see him again someday.

He is preceded in death by his father; mother; sister, Terri Brown; wife of 24 years, and many more loved family members. He is survived by his daughters, Andrea (Sam) Pointon, Samantha (Trampus) Twomley; niece, Melina Pointon and several other nieces and nephews; grandson, Lukas Pointon and several other grandchildren and his fiancé, Ladonya Ashley.

Cremation services are being done through the Baxter Funeral and Cremation Service. There will not be a funeral for him, though we will hold a celebration of life in his honor, date still to be determined.
