Obituary for David Kellogg

Mr. David Kellogg, 87, of Battle Creek, MI died Saturday, April 22, 2023, at his home. He was born July 14, 1935, in Battle Creek, MI, the son of Robert Conrad Kellogg and Mary Elizabeth (Taylor) Kellogg.
David graduated from Lakeview High School in 1954 and then received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Albion College with a major in Economics and Business Administration in 1958.

He started his career as a firefighter for the Battle Creek Township Fire Department in 1957. He was promoted to Assistant Chief in 1960 and was employed in this position until 1965. From there, he went to the Custer Job Corps Center as Assistant Chief of the Fire and Security Department. In 1967, he returned to the Battle Creek Township Fire Department as Captain and then promoted to Assistant Chief in 1969. He was then named Fire Inspector in 1983. He retired in 1993 after 36 years of service. He also served with the Michigan Air National Guard as a Fire, Crash, and Rescue Specialist from 1957 to 1963.

David married Linda Miller on February 17, 1962, and went on to raise four children together. David enjoyed camping with friends and family. Many memories were made in campgrounds along the Lake Michigan shore and in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. He also had a love of animals, and the Kellogg household always included a dog. He was very fond of large breeds and particularly loved their Siberian Husky named Thor. He had a weakness for anything sweet and never walked past a bakery without going in and purchasing a box of treats! He took meticulous care of his home and yard, spending numerous hours on the weekends ensuring it was the best looking one in the neighborhood. He had a knack for numbers and often played the game Sudoku. He also liked spending time on his CB radio communicating with other radio enthusiasts across the United States.

David is survived by his wife Linda; children Mark (Amy) Kellogg, Tim (Colleen) Kellogg, Matt (Kim) Kellogg and Connie (Ryan) Cate; his four grandchildren, Tasia and Spencer Kellogg, Makenna Kellogg and Dempsey Cate; brother Richard Kellogg, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Robert Matthew Kellogg and fraternal twin sister Susan (Larry) Gregory.
