Obituary for David J. Renkiewicz

DAVID J. RENKIEWICZ, 59 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his wife, Amy Renkiewicz, his children, Alison (Conner Mader) Renkiewicz, Jacob Renkiewicz and Anna Marks. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Renkiewicz, siblings Michael (Jane), Mark (Karen) and Nicholas (Maureen) along with several nieces and nephews.
Dave grew up in the Southfield, MI area. He was a very proud alumni of Detroit Catholic Central High School. He was a member of the football team, starting both offensively and defensively. He also played on the first Lacrosse team, as it was emerging as a new sport in the State. He often shared stories of his days there and enjoyed meeting people who also attended his beloved CC. He was a Shamrock to the core.
Dave was a devoted family man. He was very proud of them and frequently bragged about his family. He imparted his wisdom and life experience. He was an encourager and challenged them to reach beyond themselves. He loved his family beyond measure.
Dave was a true patriot. He loved his country. He loved what this nation stands for. And he steadfastly defended the values America was founded on. He loved politics and was a self-described news junkie. He would watch news from late afternoon well into the evening; flipping through channels to see who was reporting what. He would listen to interviews and hurl questions at the TV to those being interviewed as if they could hear him. Often angered that the interviewer wasn’t asking the right questions. Dave was a skilled interviewer. He did his research and was always prepared. He did not ask a question that he didn’t already know the answer to. He was detailed and believed words matter. Choose the right words, always.
Dave became well known in the southwest Michigan area through his radio show, Live with Renk. His show was unique in that he enjoyed the dialogue with callers. He gave them an outlet to share their thoughts and voice concerns. His show aired for fifteen years across several counties and in three markets at one time. He had a huge reach, not only regionally but had listeners across many states and a few countries. He made a deep impact in regional politics and the people who listened to his show.
