Obituary for Dell McCoy Looper

Dell McCoy Looper died peacefully on April 19, 2022 after months of illness, and went to be with the Lord after asking him into his heart earlier this month.

Dell had a love for life and expressed it by saying things like, "Glad you got to see me," when he left a gathering, and singing songs about being humble and getting better lookin' everyday. According to him, he had the best lookin' legs for a man and loved to show them off by wearing his shorts most of the year.

He was born in Sunk Cane, Tennessee on June 9, 1944, and moved to Michigan with his parents and 4 sisters when he was 8 years old. Yes, 4 sisters! He went to Battle Creek Public Schools until he was 12 years old and then moved to Pennfield for the remainder of his school years.

In 1963, he began working at Post Cereals as a truck driver and retired in 1999 after 36 years of dedicated service.

Dell is survived by his wife of 24 years and the love of his life, Kay Morgan; five sons, Jeff (Jodi), Mike (Betsy), Dell Robert, Chad and Jason (Tesia); seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, and four sisters, Helen Jones, Velma Sims, Joyce (Bill) Manthey and Lois (Paul) Masters.

Dell loved his cars. He always had the best looking cars whether they were Corvettes, '57 Chevy's or GTO's. He often raced at Martin DragWay as a young man, where he gained many trophies, much to the disapproval of his parents. He also loved to sing Karaoke - country music - and was pretty good at it. He enjoyed down-hill skiing and went for trips up north to Boyne Mountain with his sister and brother-in-law. He played softball for a number of years on different teams and even helped coach a women's team. Dell loved the game of golf for many years and was an avid bowler and sports in general enthusiast. He helped out with driving the Chase Commander Van for Post Cereal during the balloon festivals.

A celebration of Dell's life will be held at the PNA (Polish National Alliance), 15 Clair Street, Battle Creek, MI on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Centrica Hospice in memory of Dell.
