Obituary for Donald Guy Cole

Donald Guy Cole, 72, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 at the MediLodge of Marshall from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.

He was born on July 26, 1949 in Battle Creek, MI to Keith M. Cole Sr. and Jean M. (Robinson) Cole.

He married Janet Marie Akers on September 4, 1971. They had 50 wonderful years together. They had one daughter, Amy Michele Cole, who passed away in 1993. She welcomed her dad to heaven with open arms.

Don earned his Eagle Scout badge in Boy Scouts at the age of 14.

He was a 1967 graduate of Battle Creek Central. He was also a 1972 graduate from Michigan Tech University with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. While there he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and also a member of R.O.T.C. Don was an active member at the Elks Lodge #131.

He spent 11 years in the Army Reserves. For six years he was Commander at the Battle Creek Reserve Center, earning his rank of Captain.

He worked at United Steel and Wire, Eaton Corp., and finally retired in 2008 from Delphi Corp. in Henrietta, New York after 26 years of service.

Don loved to fish. His favorite places to fish were the Finger Lakes in Upstate New York.

Donald is survived by his wife, Janet; brother, Keith (Mary) Cole Jr.; sister, Denise (Ron) Mosher, brother-in-law, Thomas (Elizabeth) Akers; sister-in-law, Lidia Akers; nephews, Nicholas Cole, Zach Wiegand, John Akers and Joe Akers; nieces, Jean Uphold, Juanita Akers and Jennifer Akers and best friends, Don and Ardis Vandenboss and Bob and Anne Prevost. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy; parents; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Erma Akers and brother-in-law, Jerry Akers.

Due to the Covid pandemic, cremation has taken place.

A private burial will take place at the Bedford Cemetery.
