Obituary for Donna Gail Myer (Haifley)

The family is saddened to announce that Donna Myer, Born Donna Gail Haifley August 19, 1931 to Ruth and Herbert Haifley in Otsego, MI. passed away of natural causes at her home in Battle Creek on 10/11/2019.

She grew up near Sturgis and White Pigeon, graduating from White Pigeon High School in1949. Donna married Robert Myer of Constantine in 1950. They lived in Litchfield, then moved to Battle Creek. Husband Bob taught at Franklin School 35 years, and driver’s ed at Central.

She worked at Kellogg’s, then Oliver’s until retiring to raise her family. She started attending KCC in the basement of BC Central, then attended night school for many years, majoring in Art at Western Michigan University.

She was a den mother for her children at Minges Brook Elementary and cooked hot lunches at Highland Jr High and Lakeview HS. In the 1970’s she sold Portobello Mushrooms from the Campbell Soup mushroom farm throughout the Battle Creek Area, ran a small restaurant called the Mushroom Cave, and wrote the book titled “Answers to Your Mushroom Questions Plus Recipes”. In the 80’s she organized The Holistic Health Resource Association after her experience with cancer.

She was a minister of the Metaphysical Church & healing group Sisterhood of the Emerald Fire. For many years she has been very active in the local Institute for Learning in Retirement, through KCC and Election precinct 16 delegate. She enjoyed collecting books, friends, and helping other people.

Donna’s remains will rest in two places; half will be representative of the 5th generation family pioneer plot in White Pigeon, beside her parents, grandparents, great grandparents and great, great grandmother, and half with her husband in Ft. Custer.



Donna is survived by her brother Roger Haifley (Karen), sons Phillip Myer, Daryl Myer (Debbie) and Fritz Myer, niece Karen Haifley-Nozicka, nephews Todd Haifley (Teresa), Brent Haifley, & Rick Haifley (Rosette). Grand Children Jessica Myer-Noak, step-grandson Brad Gill, and great grandson Kevin Noak Jr. (Tig).



Visitation will be held at Chapel Hill Church on Saturday November 23 10AM PM with the funeral service to immediately follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Chad Parmalee officiating and a luncheon to follow at 12:00. Interment will be at Ft. Custer Nation cemetery in Battle Creek at a later date and at The White Pigeon cemetery in the spring of 2020.
