Obituary for Evelyn Marie Atkinson (Henry)
Evelyn Marie Atkinson was born July 2, 1933 in Battle Creek Michigan to the union of Charles and Ruby Henry. Evelyn was the last child born of seven children. On November 14, 2019, God called on Evelyn to come home.
Evelyn attended the Battle Creek Public Schools, receiving her High School Diploma from Battle Creek Central High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Western Michigan University and received a License Practical Nursing Degree from Kellogg Community College. Evelyn got baptized at The Original Church of God in Battle Creek, MI at an early age, and was a member of Maranatha Original Church of God until her passing. Evelyn was a very intelligent, loving and trustworthy woman. She fell in love and married the love of her life James Edward Atkinson and from that union five children were born: Jennifer Renee, Joyce Elaine, David Lee, Janet Marie, and June Lynette Atkinson.
Evelyn was a pillar in her community, without question Evelyn opened her heart and door to everyone. Evelyn was loved by many who affectionately called her Mamma, Gramma, Gee Gee, and Auntie; she embraced and loved all unconditionally. Evelyn spent her working years training men and women the skills of nursing and the love of caring for others. Evelyn also enjoyed traveling both in the US and abroad where she was able to enjoy the beauty of the world God created. Evelyn’s most precious gifts were her husband, her children, and grandchildren. The blueprint of her life is truly a fairy tale for all of us to follow.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memories, her 3 daughters: Jennifer (Renee) Atkinson Williams of Battle Creek, MI, Joyce (Toby) Atkinson Gill of South Holland, IL, and Janet Atkinson Williams of Chicago, IL. A son Jason Crape Jr. of Battle Creek, Son’s in Law: Alonzo Chatman Jr., Maurice Williams, Ronald Williams Sr., and Larry Gill. A Brother Vernon Henry of Battle Creek, MI. Grandchildren: David Scott, Ronald (Nuk)Williams Jr, Domonique Chatman, Alonzo Chatman III, Rhonda Williams, Mori Williams, Jeremyah Chatman, Amanda (Mandy) Williams, Evelyn Clemons, Dustin Gill, Malcolm Williams, Courtnie Atkinson, Brittany Gill Paarlberg, Anthony Clemons, Jordan Williams, Jade Williams, Jessica Atkinson, Honia Beasley, Omari Beasley, Darion Jackson, 30 great grandchildren. Sister’s in-law: Helen Henry of Battle Creek, MI and Sherri Henry of Las Vegas, NV and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband: James Edward Atkinson, parents: Charles and Ruby Henry, a sister: Beatrice Henry, brothers: Charles Jr., Edward, Robert, and Raymond, her loving children: June Chatman and David Lee Atkinson, and her Grandson: Michael Atkinson.
Memorial services will be held at the Maranatha Original Church of God, 400 Waubascon Road, Battle Creek, MI 49037 starting at 9:00 am with Pastor Geraldine Richardson officiating.
