Obituary for Fred R. Alaniz Jr.
Fred R. Alaniz Jr., 84, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born on August 8, 1935, the son of Fred R. and Mildred (Timberlake) Alaniz.
Fred proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Air Force in the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He was an active member of many organizations including the American Legion Post #484 in Hickory Corners, Delton Moose 1649, VFW Post #422 in Delton, MI, Post #48, American Veterans in Tiffin, Ohio. Fred was a strong supporter for Aviation Education and the American Legion Boys State of Michigan.
Fred is survived by his Wife of 33 years, Mary Ann (Steyer) Alaniz; Three Sons, Fred E. Alaniz, Victor Alaniz, Glenn (Colleen) Alaniz; Step-Daughter, Jolynn (Roy) Schafer; 17 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren and Five Sisters. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Daughter, Vita Alaniz, Former Spouse, Diana Hendrickson and Two Brothers and Three Sisters.
Fred was an avid fisherman, he loved spending time on the water. He also enjoyed gardening, meeting and talking to new people, and just being outdoors. Fred's passion in life was to help people, no matter where he lived, he wanted to help out as much as he could in the community. He will be missed by his family, friends and all those that knew and loved him.
Celebration of life services will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, on Friday, September 20, 2019, 10:00 am.
Interment will take place in the Fort Custer National Cemetery. Following interment, a luncheon will be held at the American Legion Post #484.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #484, 3801 W. Hickory Road, Hickory Corners, MI 49060.
