Obituary for Glendoria Bridges (Horton)

Glendoria Bridges, 78, fell asleep in death on Sunday, March 13, 2022. She was born on October 8, 1943, in Memphis, Tennessee, daughter of George Barr and Pearline Perry, both of whom preceded her in death.

Glendoria was a beautiful mother, big sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother and friend. She loved her family very much, especially her only daughter Michelle pet name “Shelly”. Being the oldest of her siblings, Glendoria learned at a young age how to be a good caretaker, which she continued to do throughout her life, helping to care for any and as many As she could. Glendoria wed Melvin Bridges and they were married for 34 years. They shared a life, love, one child and two grandchildren together, whom they were both able to cherish until his death in 1997; but his love for them was able to live on through Glendoria, with her doing her utmost to provide for them all. She is survived by her daughter: Michelle (Roger) Williams; Stepson: Rothy Bridges; Grandsons: Michael Williams and Mark (Rickeshia) Williams; Great Grandchildren: Markell, Myle’ah, Lamar, Nyla and Amir. Siblings: Luretha Robinson, Arden (Pearlie) Farley, Janice Griffin, James (Linda) Slater, Paula Redden; Uncle: Reginald (Rosa) Horton; special nephew Derrick Gibson as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.

She was also a loved member of the Battle Creek Central Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where she had been baptized for 65 years. Glendoria loved the field ministry where she engaged in letter writing, phone calls and of course, door-to-door preaching and teaching. She did so for many years as a Regular Pioneer. As she aged and developed health and physical limitations, she didn’t let them stop her efforts to spread the good news. She’d even have them walk right up to the car to talk to her and they enjoyed doing so. She truly lived one of her favorite scriptures, John 8:29, “The One who sent me is with me; he did not abandon me to myself, because I always do the things pleasing to him.” Many of her Christian friends fondly remember the jokes and fun she brought to the car group and congregation for both the young and older ones. She is most remembered though, for her warm greetings and faithful service. Some of her closest brothers and sisters in her faith were Albert Garrett, Larry Willis, Sherral Blood, Peggy Curry, Anne Kemppainen and Laura Daniels. Last, but not least, she had a very special bible study, Bianca Hinton, whom she remained close to.

When family and friends think about Glendoria, several things come to mind: her beautiful smile, her infectious laugh, playfulness, her knitted and crocheted gifts, as well as her quick wit. She had a long, phenomenal work history that included Clark Equipment, the Calhoun County Jail, Ann J. Kellogg Elementary and C.I.R. Glendoria loved her work family also. Ingrid Payton became like a daughter to her, and special work friends included Gloria Robinson, Reggie LaGrand, Tim Elliott, Rena McNutt and Annette Rowan.

Besides her parents and beloved husband, Glendoria was preceded in death by her two brothers: Ronald Farley and Karl Farley; special uncle and father figure: Gene Horton; stepdaughter: Sonny Bridges and two nephews: Karl Amerson and Greg Parker, Jr., who were special to her and near to her heart.

As we all cherish the memories we had with her, we do well to remember another of her favorite scriptures at Acts 24:15 “And I have a hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” So, this is not goodbye, it’s simply see you later.
