Obituary for Gwendelyn Mae Sheldon (Freer)
Gwendelyn M. (Freer) Sheldon, 88, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away on June 3, 2022. She was the daughter of Vivalda and Bethel (Noakes) Freer born on January 27,1934 in Albion, MI and then moved to Marshall, MI in 1944. She attended Samson School then graduated from Marshall High School in 1951.
She married Leonard Sheldon I on June 15th, 1951. Gwen is survived by her 7 daughters, Patricia Frye, Betty (Dale) Esterline, Deb (Dan) Richardson, Linda ( Henry) George, Brenda (Thomas) Andrews, Carol Vanguilder, and Cinda Yancy; 5 sons, William(Cathy) Sheldon, Gary (Dorothy) Sheldon, Mike (Chris) Sheldon, Robert Sheldon, and Paul (Tonya) Sheldon; sister, Delpha Freer; brother, Carl (Carla) Freer; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vivalda and Bethel Freer; husband, Leonard Sheldon; son, Leonard Sheldon Jr.; grandsons, Phillip Sheldon, Sonny Sheldon; granddaughter, Kelley Sue Sheldon; great granddaughters, Charity and Ashtin; great grandson, Brandon; sisters, Elizabeth and Maxine and brother, Lesleigh.
Gwen worked for Hi-Lite for 15 years and drove bus for Mar Lee School from 1975-2010. She was an avid traveler fulfilling most of her bucket list including making it to a Detroit Pistons game. She never passed up going to the casino or playing bingo, but the biggest love of her life was spending time with her family and friends.
Visitation/celebration of life was held at Baxter Funeral and Cremation Service on Sunday, June 5, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Cremation will take place with a graveside burial at Riverside cemetery in Albion, MI at a later date.
