Obituary for Helen C. Holliday
Helen C. Holliday was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan on May 30, 1930 to Elwyn Sr. and Lillian (Hirn) Anderson. AT the age of ten, she moved with her family to Manistique, Michigan. She graduated from Manistique High School in 1948 and in 1953 from Great Lakes Bible Institute in Zion, Illinois. She died on May 29, 2020 at the age of 89.
Helen Anderson married Robert L. Holliday on July 10, 1954. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July of 2014. They were married 64 years before his death.
Surviving are son, Douglas Holliday of Battle Creek, Michigan, son, Dr. Donald (Lisa) Holliday of Dallas, Texas, Robert Holliday Jr. of Flint, Michigan and daughter, Arlene (Phil) Gunter of Livingston, Tennessee. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Connie (Jason) Brown, Jeff Gunter, Angela, Michelle and Amy Holliday; brother, Cal (Audrey) Anderson of Sedro Woolly, Washington; brother-in-law, Clyde Peterson of Kingsford, Michigan; sister-in-law, Irene Anderson of Lake Stevens, Washington and several nieces and nephews. Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Elwyn Sr. and Lillian Anderson; brothers, Wallace and Elwyn Jr. Anderson and sister, Sally Peterson.
Helen worked at Great Lakes Bible Institute, serving as Registrar. She was also employed at the National Headquarters of the Assemblies of God in Springfield, Missouri. For fifteen years, she was a secretary and bookkeeper at Trinity Assembly of God in Flint, Michigan. In 1985, the ladies of the church honored her with “Mother of the Year”.
In 1987, she and her husband moved from Flint to Battle Creek, where she was a member of First Assembly of God. She also served the church as secretary and bookkeeper. In more recent years, she worked with her husband in the Holliday Tax Service.
Through the years, her church activities involved being an officer in Women’s Ministries, working with children’s programs, singing in the choir, and being involved in the mission program of the church. She enjoyed reading and watching football – both the University of Michigan and the Green Bay Packers.
In accordance with Helen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
