Howard James Pearson, Jr., 65, of Springfield, MI, went to be with Lord, Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. He was born August 8, 1945 the son of Howard James Pearson, Sr. and Maxine Ilene (Way) Pearson.
Jim was employed at Clark Equipment Co., Calhoun County Humane Society and the City of Battle Creek where he affectionately known as "Pappa Smurf".
Jim is survived by Wife of 34 years: Sue (Robinson) Pearson of Battle Creek, MI; Daughters: Ilene (Scott) Harrington of Battle Creek, MI, Malissa Pearson of Battle Creek, MI, Jenny (Jerry) Moore of Texas, Sara (Bruce) Barrett of Texas and Sunni (John) Munoz of Battle Creek, MI; Son: Scott (Jen) Sackrider of Battle Creek, MI; 15 Grandchildren; Sisters: Diana McKiver of Battle Creek, MI and Mary Chester of Battle Creek, MI; Brothers: Michael Pearson of Battle Creek, MI and Steve Pearson of Battle Creek, MI; Step-Sister: Shari (John) Taylor of Florida; Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents; his Step-Mother: Roseann Pearson; Sister: Nancy Smith; Brother: David Pearson and Step-Sister: Debra Barbree.
Jim was a practical joker and had nicknames for everyone. He was the family handyman and could fix anything. He enjoyed camping and puttering. He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association and the Custer Chapel.
Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Thursday, July 7, 2011 after 10 AM. Services will follow in the funeral home chapel at 12 Noon.
Interment will be at Bedford Cemetery, Battle Creek, MI.
