Obituary for Jack L. Baird

Jack Lewis Baird, 75, passed away on April 17, 2021. He was born on August 13, 1945 to Gates M. And Eugenia Jean (Baker) Baird. Jack was the fifth of five boys. He graduated from Kellogg Consolidated in Hickory Corners in 1964. After graduation, Jack joined the U.S. Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. He would go on to work for General Motors (Fisher Body) and retire after 32 years. Jack married Phyllis Roddy on October 12, 1964.

Jack is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Roddy) Baird; 2 sons, Jack Lee (Tonya Hopkins) Baird and Keith (Julie) Roddy Baird; grandchildren, Roddy Allen Baird, Mark Lewis Baird, Katie (Andrew) Parker, Ally (Dalton) Salgat; great-grandchildren, Savanna Parker, Mia Salgat, and Olivia Salgat and very special friends, David and Linda Shorter. He is preceded in death by parents; brothers, Bobby, Tommy, Jerry, and Gates Jr. (Buster).

Jack enjoyed detailing cars and trucks (he loved to make them shine), taking care of his lawn and vegetable garden, and was an avid sports fan. He loved to play football and baseball in school and played softball for many years after graduation.

In accordance with Jack’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place at a later date. He will be interred at Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors.
