Obituary for Jack Walter Sylvester

Jack Walter Sylvester went home to be with his Lord on November 18, 2022 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.

Jack was born on March 12, 1948 to Walter and Opal (Sackett) Sylvester. He grew up on the family farm on Beckley Road that was homesteaded in 1836.

He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1966 and worked for Battle Creek Gas/Semco Energy for 41 years, retiring in 2010. Jack was an avid wood worker, he enjoyed playing softball, bowling, western movies, gardening, raising livestock and watching football with his dog "Hershey".

On April 14, 1984 Jack married Patricia Spooner, she survives. Also surviving are his sisters, Karen Otten and Patricia West; son, Matthew Sylvester; special chosen family, Jamie, Danny, Steven and Jillian Grenfell; Clifford, Molly, Sarah and Ava Case; Allen, Alexis, Aiden and Adalynn Case. Jack also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends . He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant granddaughter.

He was known to many as “One-Eyed Jack“ after a serious work accident in 1976. Through everything Jack never lost his faith or sense of humor. He was an inspiration and help to many. He was very proud to be “Papa“ to Steve, Jill, Sarah, Ava, Aiden, and Sissy. His upbeat outlook on life and all the ups and downs it brings will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 West Dickman Road, on Friday November 25, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Tom Schwartz officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Bronson Battle Creek Cancer Center, Wattles Park Faith Fellowship Church, North Athens Baptist Church - VBS Fund, or the American Heart Association.
