Obituary for James E. Mansfield

It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Jim Mansfield, 61, of Battle Creek, Michigan lost his valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on April 2, 1958, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of George and Patricia (Doyle) Mansfield. Jim graduated from Lakeview High School in 1977. He worked at the V.A. Medical Center for 33 years. He retired in April 2013.

He married the former Amy Hammond on February 17, 2006. Jim and Amy enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the United States. He had visited all but three of the fifty states. Jim was on a bowling league for many years, an avid fisherman, hockey player and coached hockey to beginners. He also was known for photography and loved spending time on his boat. Jim will be remembered mostly for his generosity of time. He was always willing to lend a helping hand on any project or repair for family and friends alike.

He is survived by his loving wife Amy; stepson, Jeff Yancer (Amy Simmons) and stepdaughter Katie Yancer (Adam Shook). Jim was a grandfather to Aidan Simmons and Gideon Shook; his sisters, Rebecca Kramm (Jim) and Gloria Mansfield both of Battle Creek and a large extended family. He had a special bond with his Aunt, Patricia Doyle of Battle Creek.

The celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Friday July 12, 2019 at Baxter Funeral and Cremation Services at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held on Thursday July 11, 2019 at 4:00-7:00PM.
