Obituary for Jesse James Shavers

Jesse James Shavers, also known as Cowboy, passed away on March 7, 2022 at the VA Medical Center Hospital. Jesse was born on July 19, 1951, in Battle Creek, MI to the late Elizabeth Jackson & Harry Shavers Sr.

Jesse graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and joined the United States Air Force thereafter on January 6, 1971, and was honorably discharged due to medical issues.

Jesse enjoyed fishing, reading books on wealth, health, and the Holy Bible. He was a fan of Bruce Lee and martial arts movies, he even earned a black belt in Jiu Jitsu martial arts. He was a champion at chess, and a lover of music. Jesse eternally and unconditionally loved and adored his children and grandchildren.

Jesse is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Shavers Sr., Elizabeth Jackson, Carl D Jackson, Jr. (Pops); sister, Carla Jackson; brother, Willie Shavers; and granddaughter, Kyasia Lenton.

Jesse leaves to cherish his memories his darling daughters, Shanika Fatima Bell, Vanessa Tatum, Tyeisha Poindexter; beloved sons, Delano Montego Buckner, Hasheem Bell, Jesse Pharoah Tatum, Jesse Shavers Jr., James Gabriel Smith; 25 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.

The family will receive visitors at the Baxter Funeral and Cremation Service on Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held also at the Baxter Funeral and Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, Battle Creek, MI on Friday, March 18, 2022 starting at 1:00 pm.
