Obituary for John Bruce Archer

John Bruce Archer, 66, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, February 13, 2018.
John was at home at the time of his passing with his loving wife, sons and pet dog by his side. John was born December 20, 1951 in Battle Creek, MI, to the late Charles Archer and Betty (Bruce) Shelton.
John graduated from Lakeview High School in 1971. He was married to Darlene (Hall) Archer on April 18, 1996. His first marriage to Nancy (Osterling) Archer ended in divorce.
John retired from the Kellogg Company in March 2015, after 42 years of dedication as a man with an incomparable work ethic.
John loved being outdoors his entire life. He lived a very active life from water sports (skiing, sailing, and boating) to sitting by his loving wife on his deck, with a beer in his hand, gazing out at the lake after a long day at work. John also enjoyed winter sports, from downhill skiing in Utah to snowmobiling across Michigan. With his wife by his side, they traveled to Traverse City, MI, many times a year, enjoyed Caribbean cruises, and traveling around the United States. John enjoyed target shooting and was an avid supporter of the second amendment right to bear arms. He was a strong patriot of the United States and all things “Made in the USA”.
John will be remembered as a fun and patriotic man who could often be found at Territorial Brewing Company or Horrocks, sharing a beer with whomever happened to be sitting nearby. He leaves behind so many dear friends, drinking buddies, and coworkers who are saddened by his passing. He dearly loved his wife and was a loving father to his sons and was so very proud of their accomplishments.
In his early days, John was a member of Boy Scouts of America, the Battle Creek Ski Club, Northside Snowmobile Club and Kellogg Bowling League. Later in life, John was a dedicated member of the NRA and Masonic Lodge of Bedford, MI.
John is survived by his wife, Darlene (Hall) Archer, of Battle Creek; sons, Nicholas (Maggie Springstun) Archer of Battle Creek, MI; Devin (Angela) Hall and grandsons, Connor, Jacob and Ethan, of Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, CO; Mother, Betty L. Shelton of Battle Creek, MI; sisters, Carol (Lonnie) Underwood of Battle Creek, MI, Jane Mallernee of Battle Creek and Linda (James) Baker of Dowling, MI; step-brothers Gary (Sheila) Shelton of The Villages, FL, Dave (Kathy) Shelton of Battle Creek, MI and Ron (Courtney) Shelton of Fort Worth, TX; step-sister Sherry Heagney of Battle Creek, MI; brother-in-laws, Douglas Hall of Battle Creek, MI, and Randy Hall of Battle Creek, MI; numerous nieces and nephews across the United States, and his beloved dog, Tillie.
John was preceded in death by his father Charles P. Archer in 1990 and step-father Walter D. Shelton in 2002.
In accordance to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A fun “Celebration of Life” will take place at Riverside Golf Club, 245 Columbia Ave, East, Battle Creek, MI, on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, 4pm -7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to American Cancer Society (Carcinoid Cancer Research), Humane Society of South Central Michigan, or Heartland Hospice.
