Obituary for John A. Coffing
John Arthur Coffing, 82, of Battle Creek, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. He was born on March 25, 1937, the son of William Jesse Coffing and Ida Pauline (Brechbill) Coffing.
John was employed at Kellogg's for 39 years until retiring 1996. He served on the Calhoun County Sheriff Posse for 32 years and was a Pennfield Volunteer Fire fighter for 24 years.
John is survived by his Wife of 57 years, Esther LaJune (Higley) Coffing of Battle Creek, MI; Son, Timothy Myron Coffing of Battle Creek, MI; Grandchildren, L.J. LaVergne and Jessica LaVergne; Sisters, Miriam (Randy) Smith and Carolyn Crandall; Brother, David (Sue) Coffing and Son-in-Law, Linus LaVergne.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, his Daughter, Shawn LaVergne, Brother, Richard Coffing and Brother-in-Law, A.J. Crandall.
John enjoyed helping people, singing, hunting, shooting, cars, racing and traveling. John incorporated his interest in travel and his heart for missions by participating in several international missions projects. He was a member of First Assembly of God for 62 years where he served on the church board and sang in the choir. He then attended Family Altar Chapel.
Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Thursday August 22, 2019 from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon.
A funeral service will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at 12:00 noon with Pastor Travis Davis of Family Altar Chapel officiating.
