Obituary for John B. Pulsipher

John Benham Pulsipher, 77, of Battle Creek, Mich., died unexpectedly on Feb. 26, 2021, at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. John was born July 17, 1943, in Battle Creek, to Ruth and Elwin Pulsipher, who preceded him in death.

He was a 1961 graduate of Lakeview High School, where he played varsity baseball. He worked at Van Horn’s Standard gas station, Michigan Testing and Engineering and retired after 29 years of service from the Battle Creek Gas Co.

John married the former Sharon Kindy on July 2, 1965, at First United Methodist Church in Battle Creek. He is survived by Sharon, his wife of 55 years; daughters, Cindy (Jeff) Campbell and Becky Pulsipher; two grandchildren, Courtney (Jeremy) Carter and Cody (Secilie Lock) Campbell, all of Battle Creek; brother, Gary (Sue Egelus) Pulsipher, of Traverse City; sister, Ann Pulsipher, of Battle Creek; and many other dear relatives. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Mark David Pulsipher, and brother, Paul Pulsipher.

John had a passion for Corvettes and other vintage cars and tractors. He loved to fix them, collect them, read about them and enjoyed the hunt for parts at swap meets. His love of cars was matched by his talent for construction and woodworking. He built houses and their additions, and crafted many other wonderful pieces. He was the go-to guy whenever anybody had a question or needed help on a project in those areas. John also enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles, especially the New York Times Sunday puzzle.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, including his Thursday crew at Mr. Don’s.

In accordance with John's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial visitation will take place at Baxter Funeral & Cremation, 375 W. Dickman Rd. Battle Creek, on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
