Obituary for John Dudley Satterfield

John "Bokey" Dudley Satterfield Jr., 73, of Battle Creek, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born on July 26, 1942 the son of John Dudley Satterfield Sr. and Hattie Belle (Hall) Satterfield.
John graduated from Richmond Senior High School in 1961. John worked as a machine operator for AVCO prior to moving his family to Battle Creek, MI in 1971. He was hired into Western Michigan University beginning as a painter in 1971 and worked his way up to the facilities manager before retiring in 2010. He was a member of Maranatha Original Church of God for the past 40 years where he served as a trustee, board member, choir member, and musician.
John is survived by his children John D. (Mattie) Satterfield III, Alfred E. (Samara) Satterfield Sr., Yolanda Satterfield, Malcolm Satterfield, Deonta A. Minor, and Vicki Whaley; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; five sisters, Hattie McGathey, Ida Smith-Speaks, Evelyn Smith-Watford, Carol Smith, Wilma Smith; brother, Woody Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Mary Francis Jet and Valeeta Carter, daughter, Fawn Satterfield, and step-mother, Beatrice Smith-Satterfield.
John was an avid bowler, golfer, and pool player. He loved to be outdoors and go for walks in his woods. He also enjoyed traveling with his family. John had a passion for playing the guitar and singing. He was a man of many talents and he will be deeply missed by all the hearts he touched.
