Joseph Chapin LaForce, Jr., 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 8, 2021, at Bronson Health Care of Battle Creek. He was born in Battle Creek to Joseph Chapin LaForce and Ambra (Clark) LaForce.
Joe graduated from Lakeview Schools in 1948, and he served in the US Army, during the Korean Conflict.
Beginning with his first bicycle to cars and trains, he liked nothing better than to repair things. He worked as a mechanic at Robert H. Holmes Buick dealership, Kool DeMaagd Oldsmobile, and retired from Grand Trunk Railroad. Joe was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek and owned/operated Joe’s Garage for 50 years.
He was married to Joyce (Gallagher) LaForce (deceased) for 64 years. In addition to his wife, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene LaForce, and son, Michael Gallagher. Joe is survived by his daughter, Geri (Gallagher) DeBilzan, of Florida, three sons, Joseph LaForce III (Gloria), Gregory LaForce, and James LaForce, all of Battle Creek, and his sister, Lana (LaForce) Freeman (James), 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
