Obituary for Joyce Ellen Steinkirchner (Moots)

Joyce Ellen (Moots) Steinkirchner, 95 passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, July 2, 2021. Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 75 years, Arthur E. Steinkirchner of Marshall; her daughter, Susan Szeremet of Richmond, VA; son-in-law, Fred Hecox of Marshall; five grandsons, Stewart (Amber) Szeremet, Stephen (Megan) Szeremet, Tim Hecox, Eric (Claire) Hecox, and Ben Coultes and four great-grandchildren, Chase, Brandon, Adyson, and Payton. She was preceded in death by Nancy Hecox and Linda Coultes her loving daughters and her two siblings, Lois Ediger, Keith Moots.

Joyce was born the second of three children to Clema Stewart and Frank Moots of Newton, Kansas. Joyce married her high school sweetheart, Art, in Manhattan, Kansas in 1946 after he returned from World War II. Joyce began teaching in 1956 in Flora, IL and finished her teaching career at Beadle Lake Elementary School in 1988. During her career, Joyce made positive contributions to the lives of students she taught in kindergarten, first grade and as a physical education teacher. She was proud to serve as a supervisor of student teachers for Western Michigan University. Joyce was an amazing wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She always offered a kind word, warm smile, and appreciative thank you to all she met. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to express their thankfulness to the staff of Maplewood of Marshall for the wonderful care she and Art have received for the last nine years.

Joyce was cremated and will be placed to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery on August 9, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Anyone wishing to reach the family may contact Susan Szeremet at skszeremet@gmail.com.
