Obituary for Lucy May Davis

Lucy M. Davis passed away on September 29, 2022, at 93 while living at Laurels of Bedford for the last 5 ½ months. She finished her race and has run into the arms of her friend and Savior, Jesus.

She was born in Battle Creek, MI on 9/17/29 to Thornton Davis & Rowena Davis (McAllister). She graduated from high school at Battle Creek Central in 1947 and went on to become an LPN nurse and worked for several doctor’s offices and loved caregiving for people throughout her whole life.

Lucy married Robert J. Stanton in 1947 which ended in divorce after 18 years. She then married Bethel Frailey and remained married for 27 years. She is survived by her 3 children, Beverly Roberts of Florida, Robert J. Stanton Jr (Teresa) of Kentucky and Douglas Stanton (Rhonda) of Augusta, MI. and one step-son, Vern Frailey of Lansing, MI. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several close nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 siblings (Vern, Susie & Marylou), son in law, Hugh Roberts, step-daughter, Vicki Mudd, step granddaughter, Emily Frailey and niece, Dara Kwiatkowski.

Lucy's zeal for life was huge and she lived it to the fullest. Her generosity and spontaneity in everything was strongly evident to all who knew her well. She loved laughing a lot, even at herself and it was so contagious. Hosting big family gatherings, square dancing and neighborhood parties in her younger years were highlights she enjoyed, as well as camping adventures, gardening and canning vegetables with her family. She loved her grandkids so much and she would drop everything to do for them. Whether it was letters, phone calls, cookies or gum, each one knew they were special. She was sharp and competitive at card playing, bingo and most any game she played. Even in the last couple years she would tell us the people at her building were upset with her because she always won at bingo.

The love of Jesus motivated her in the ministry groups she led during her church life including Life Fellowship and Best Years Fellowship. She will ever be remembered for her servant heart throughout the Battle Creek Community.
