Obituary for Lynn P. Johnson

Lynn Paul Johnson passed into the arms of Jesus on May 24, 2020. Lynn was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, on September 7, 1937 to Clara Carlson Johnson and Paul Johnson. He graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1955 where he excelled at baseball, and was asked to join the Detroit Tigers Farm Team but chose to go to College instead. He attended Spring Arbor Junior College and Roberts Wesleyan where he ran cross country and track.

He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years. He worked at the V.A. after coming home from the Army and was a letter carrier for 24 years He played softball on many Battle Creek teams with many awards as most valuable player. He was an avid table tennis player and won many trophies, and was in charge of the Battle Creek Table Tennis Club for 25 years. He passionately enjoyed watching sports especially the Tigers and Pistons. He was a strong Christian and was a member of the Cornerstone Free Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Marian of 53 years; daughter, Jill; son, Joel; brother, Loren (Donna); sister, Susan; aunt, Celia Biener, plus several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved grand children, Luke, Kirah, Naomi, Noella, Lily, and one great-granddaughter, Mira, whom he loved spending time with teaching them sports. He is preceded in death by a sister, Sheryl Stevens and his parents.

In accordance with Lynn’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lynn's name may be made to the Salvation Army.
