Obituary for Martha A. Lloyd

Martha Anne Lloyd was born on August 20, 1951 in Flint, Michigan, to Ruth Brzosko [Jones] and Vito Ragusa. Martha was raised by Joseph Brzosko and Ruth Brzosko. The addition of younger sister Ruth completed their family. The family moved a lot, spending time in various parts of Michigan before finally settling in Battle Creek.

Martha graduated from Battle Creek Academy in 1969 and went on to attend Andrews University where she later met Don Lloyd. They were married on October 20, 1974 at the Battle Creek Tabernacle and settled in Climax, Michigan.

Throughout her life, Martha held many careers including realtor, medical receptionist, and retail merchandiser. But the arrival of children brought the greatest fulfillment to her life. Don Jr. was born in 1977, followed by Anthony, Thomas, and Maria.

Church and faith were a central pillar in Martha’s life. She was a member of the Forest Lake Seventh-day Adventist Church in Apopka, Florida; attended the Battle Creek Tabernacle in Battle Creek, Michigan and the Foresthill Adventist Church in Foresthill, California. Don and Martha were also leaders of the Battle Creek Pioneer Pathfinder Club.

Although, their primary residence was always Michigan, in 2013 they bought a home in California and began to split their time between both places. Despite Martha’s aversion to flying, she and Don were always on the go. There were mission trips in Asia and the Caribbean, Don’s work trips in Florida, and many family trips to various destinations. Life was always an adventure.

From sewing, to quilting, to stamping, Martha loved spending time pursuing many crafting hobbies as well as collecting shells on the beach. And it did not matter whether she was serving a meal for two or twenty, her tables were always impeccably set with an abundance of food. There were often more pies than people.

On March 30, 2021 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Martha passed away from complications from diabetes with Don by her side.

She is survived by her husband Don, sister Ruth (Neal) Smith, four children and their spouses Don (Grace) Lloyd, Anthony (Liz) Lloyd, Thomas (Christina) Lloyd, Maria (Noé) Velez, 10 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Vito Ragusa, and Ruth and Joseph Brzosko.

Visitation will be at Baxter Funeral & Cremation, 375 W. Dickman Rd. Battle Creek on April 5, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Battle Creek Tabernacle on April 6, 2021 at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Due to current covid-19 restrictions only immediate family will attend the interment. Donations in her memory may be made to the Battle Creek Tabernacle and Maranatha Volunteers International.
