Obituary for Matthew Hill
Matthew Hill was born on March 8, 1924 to Bessie and Walter Hill, Sr., in Wilcox County, Alabama.
He retired after 31 1/2 years as a Truck Driver for the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Battle Creek, MI.
Matthew was a respected and loved Elder. He became a member and Sunday School Teacher at Hooper Temple C.O.G.I.C. in 1975 under Pastor J.W. Hooper. He later went on to serve as an Elder at Bethlehem/Sanctuary of Praise C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Superintendent Leon Orr (deceased) and later Superintendent Harrison Lemin Jr. He was also an affiliate at Overcomers Christian Center C.O.G.I.C., where Jonathan Griggs is Pastor.
Matthew was an avid gardener. He loved inventing and fixing things. He enjoyed studying and teaching the Bible.
Matthew was preceded in death by his Parents, Four Children, Glorious Levon (Hill) Ragland, Martha Marcella Hill, Sylvester Hill, Willie McDaniel, Three Sisters, and Six Brothers.
Matthew leaves to cherish his loving memories, A Devoted Wife of 45 Years, Bettie J. Hill; Children, Martell North of Battle Creek, Christina Edwards of Battle Creek, Mikeeta North of Battle Creek, Senya Hill of Battle Creek, Linda (Larry) Belle, Iwanna Hill, Matthew Novak Hill, Gretchen Jamie Hill; Grandson Jefferey (Sharon) Hill, Michael Hill; One Sister, Sadie Jackson of Youngstown, OH; and a host of grand, great grand, and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and relatives.
Family hour will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2020 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at the Baxter Funeral and Cremation Service.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2020 starting at 11:30 am until 1:30 pm.
Following current state and local restrictions, 25 visitors may be in attendance inside the funeral home.
