Obituary for Melvin E. Runyan

Mr. Melvin E. Runyan, 94, of Battle Creek, MI, died Friday, November 26, 2010 at his families home at Fine Lake. He was born September 09, 1916 in Anderson, IN. After graduating from high school, Melvin went to work for General Motors. In 1943 he joined the United States Army where he served until 1946. He served in the battle of Omaha Beach and received: an American Theater Ribbon, EAMET Ribbon with a Bronze Star, asiatic -Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He then returned to General Motors retiring in 1974 as a production foreman.
Melvin is survived by Wife: Ruth Lucille (Brown) Runyan, Battle Creek, MI; Step-Children: Joe & Jane Noto of Fine Lake, Bruce & Lorraine Lenardson of Plainwell, MI and 7 Step-Grandchildren.
Melvin and Ruth wintered in Venice, FL for several years until moving there in 1986. They returned to Battle Creek in 2008. Melvin was an avid sportsman, loved fishing, golf, tennis, basketball, bowling, watching football and sports on TV, eating out and spending time with his family and friends.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Anderson, IN and attended the Venice Methodist Church in Florida.
Visitation will be held at Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Monday, November 29, 2010 from 6 PM to 8 PM.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2010, 12 Noon at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Fr. Lawrence Bacik officiating.
Burial will be at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
Memorial tributes may be made to American Cancer Society.
