Obituary for Melvin E. Tate

Melvin Earl Tate, 63 of Battle Creek, Michigan went home to be with the Lord November 21, 2020. He was born in Marvell Arkansas, to Freddie and Johnny Tate on August 18, 1957 and raised by Freddie and Robert Nash.

Melvin had a larger-than-life smile and lived life to the fullest. Even as his health began to deteriorate he could always be seen with a smile; never complaining. He was a caring and compassionate individual. If you had the privilege of having him in your life he would do anything for you. He attended Battle Creek Public Schools. He was a standout football and wrestling champ as well as, a Golden Gloves boxing champ known as “Mad Dog Tate.”

He confessed Jesus as Lord of his life at an early age at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and attended regularly until his health declined.

He loved fishing, spectator sports, Tupac, spending time with family, and cooking. His cooking and cleaning skills would rival most women.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Leeunice Tate. Leaving to cherish his memories are his father, Robert Nash; sons, Antonio Whitt (Catherine) of Georgia and Melvin Moore of Battle Creek, Michigan; daughters, Jacqueline Tate, Denise Tate, and Jasmine Hunt all of Battle Creek, and 12 grandchildren; sisters, Belinda (Terry) Williams of St. Louis, Missouri, Dorothy (Andre) Patterson of Florissant, Missouri, Victoria (Tim) Reese of Battle Creek, Robbie Nash of Battle Creek, Lecia Piggee of Little Rock, Arkansas; brother, Larry Tate of Marvell, Arkansas; a special niece that he called sister, Kameaka Tate; his favorite aunt, Pecolia Skelton; cousin, Anthony Page all of Battle Creek; bonus children, Brandon Hunt, Shane Moore, and Leodies Moore and lifetime friends, Alonzo Ingram, Kalvin Jones, and Adam Kelly.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 1:00 at the Macedonia Baptist Church; with the family receiving friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
