Obituary for Niles Joseph Decker

Niles Joseph Decker , 56, of Battle Creek, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 2, 2022. He was born on September 6, 1965, the son of Niles Silsby Decker and Rosemary Kearns Decker.

Niles attended Doris Klaussen Developmental Center in Battle Creek and the Kennedy Center in Kalamazoo. While he was attending school in Kalamazoo he had the experience of working in a restaurant where he learned to make delicious salads. He put that skill to good use throughout his life. He volunteered at St. Phillip Catholic Church for many years.Later he became a member of Life in Christ Ministries where he was active in the nursing home ministry with his family. For many years he lead the "Lord's Prayer" and played the maracas.

Niles J. was always willing to accompany his parents and sister whether it was visiting nursing homes, praying for others or singing and sharing his love for the Lord. Whenever Niles J. had an opportunity he loved to get up on the dance floor and dance the night away until the band played their final song. He also loved to go for a Horseback ride at the Chef Center where he had a favorite horse named "Nash". Niles J. always enjoyed an adventure whether it was going to church functions, trips to Horrocks, traveling out of state or going to the beach. He loved to end his adventures with a stop at a McDonalds or Wendy's to wrap things up with a cheeseburger, fries and a diet coke.

God filled Niles J. with an extraordinary love for others. He seemed to have a special sense, giving him the ability to know if you were happy, sad or troubled and he was very sensitive to the feelings of others. He would often ask "Are you okay? " or "Are you my friend?" Then he would immediately pray for you!
"God Bless You"!

Niles was always very happy. Niles loved his volunteer work, nursing home ministry, playing maracas and loved his dog "Teddy Bear". He especially enjoyed time with his family. He will be missed by many of us.!
