Obituary for Patrick Michael McCann

Patrick Michael McCann, 74, of Battle Creek Michigan, passed away surrounded by loved ones on January 3, 2023 after a short but fierce battle with pancreatic cancer. Patrick was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on December 22, 1948 to Catherine (Trausch) McCann and Francis
McCann.

Pat graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1967. He was part of the BCC football dynasty in the late 60’s. After the 1965 team went undefeated in Pat’s junior year, he was chosen to be a team Captain for the 1966 squad. That team went undefeated and were the 1966 State Champions.

Pat continued his academic and football career at Central Michigan University, playing until injuries shortened his career. Pat eventually graduated from Western Michigan University Cum Laude with a business degree in 1972. This led Pat to a job in Marshall, MI at Marshall Iron and Metal, where he became more than an employee of Morris Stulberg, he became family. Pat used this initial job as a start to his own run as a business owner, Marshall Metal Products, ABC Salvage and Galesburg Speedway among them.

Pat was a major contributor to the Marshall Community. Being part of the Marshall Jaycees, The United Way, serving on the Board at Oaklawn Hospital and several other community based projects. Pat played a major role in the renovation of the Marshall High School Tennis courts and auxiliary building. He also served as the Director of the Calhoun County Fair for a period of time.

Pat enjoyed playing softball and golf, as a way to spend time with his irreverent group of friends. Making great memories at the Bear Whizzer Golf Outing every year. As his playing days were winding down, Pat found other ways to spend time with his friends, playing poker and enjoying games at the University of Michigan. Football, basketball, hockey and softball were his favorite U of M sports to frequent and follow. Hail to The Victors, Go Blue!

One thing Pat loved more than U of M athletics were his Grandkids. If one of them had a game or activity, you can bet that Pat was right there cheering them on and even offering coaching advice from time to time. Sometimes he even knew what he was talking about! Sometimes.

Family was of the utmost importance to Pat, from the endeavors of his grandchildren, to family trips, dinners, and holiday gatherings, he was always surrounded by his loving family offering his unique and unfiltered commentary and sage-like advice.

Pat is survived by his children, Emily (Tim) Parker, Benny (Cintia) McCann; brother, John (Linda) McCann; grandchildren, Maxwell and Madeline Parker, Calvin McCann, Evander, Caroline and Marren Ebner, Noah Amaru Ebner Pereyra and Ignatio Alejandro Ebner Diaz; step-children, Ethan (Kelly) Ebner, Aaron Ebner, Eric Ebner, Kristy Howard and Louis Howard; nephew, Johnny McCann; niece Lori (Kevin) Schooley, and many great nieces, nephews and loving friends and family.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Boyer.

Rest In Peace, Paddy. Go Blue!
