Obituary

Pauline Messner, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 26th, 2019 at The Laurels of Bedford in Battle Creek, MI. She was born on May 7th, 1930 to Mildred Rolfe and Max Irskine. She grew up fast and tough, learning to drive at age 14 and developing a sense of independence and perseverance during the era of the Second World War. In her early adult years, she worked at Oliver Aviation as a Riveter. Later, she worked at Weston Biscuit/Interbake Foods and Lakeview Coin Laundry while raising 6 children, before moving on to work at Post/General Foods where she retired in 1986. In her Golden Years, she was a member of the Post Employees Balloon Club, and enjoyed golfing, bowling, music, traveling and spending time with family, whom she was devoted to and loved so very much. Her love and generosity also extended to her community with long standing donations of time and resources to S.A.F.E. Place, The Downtown Festival of Lights, The World’s Longest Breakfast Table, and The Disabled American Veterans.

She is survived by her Husband of 38 years, James Stewart Messner, and 7 children: Virginia, Carl, Michael Paul, Thomas, Mike, David and Debora, as well as numerous Grand, Great Grand and Great- Great Grand Children. She is preceded in death by her previous Husband Carl Censke and Brother Henry Rolfe.

A celebration of Pauline’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 1st at Baxter Funeral & Cremation Services, 375 W. Dickman Rd, Battle Creek MI 49037. So very sorry for the loss of such a wonderful and loving lady. She was one of the sweetest neighbors I've ever had the pleasure and honor of knowing. She always made sure she stopped to say hi whenever she saw me outside and always came to my garage sales which was so sweet. I always greatly enjoyed our talks whether it be one minute or an hour. Polly always reminded me of my mom, which I lost to alzheimer's also, which makes this loss to us a lot harder. Our deepest sympathy and condolences to her entire family. We are truly saddened and sorry for such a great loss.

Ginny and family, so sorry about Polly. I remember her as a bundle of energy that loved her family. She will be missed. I’m sorry I can not be there for you but I live in Kentucky now my daughter is in school. Sadly her birthday is Nov. 1.

Much love and prayers, Connie Davidson
