Obituary for Pauline Censke-Messner

Pauline Messner, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 26th, 2019 at The Laurels of Bedford in Battle Creek, MI. She was born on May 7th, 1930 to Mildred Rolfe and Max Irskine. She grew up fast and tough, learning to drive at age 14 and developing a sense of independence and perseverance during the era of the Second World War. In her early adult years, she worked at Oliver Aviation as a Riveter. Later, she worked at Weston Biscuit/Interbake Foods and Lakeview Coin Laundry while raising 6 children, before moving on to work at Post/General Foods where she retired in 1986. In her Golden Years, she was a member of the Post Employees Balloon Club, and enjoyed golfing, bowling, music, traveling and spending time with family, whom she was devoted to and loved so very much. Her love and generosity also extended to her community with long standing donations of time and resources to S.A.F.E. Place, The Downtown Festival of Lights, The World’s Longest Breakfast Table, and The Disabled American Veterans.

She is survived by her Husband of 38 years, James Stewart Messner, and 7 children: Virginia, Carl, Michael Paul, Thomas, Mike, David and Debora, as well as numerous Grand, Great Grand and Great- Great Grand Children. She is preceded in death by her previous Husband Carl Censke and Brother Henry Rolfe.

A celebration of Pauline’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 1st at Baxter Funeral & Cremation Services, 375 W. Dickman Rd, Battle Creek MI 49037. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, October 31st at Baxter Funeral & Cremation.
