Obituary for Penny L. Dembski

Penny Lee (Breslin) Dembski, 73, passed away at the Laurels of Bedford on April 9, 2021. She was born December 1, 1947 in Battle Creek to James F. and Thelma J. (Hempsted) Breslin. After graduating from St. Philip High School in 1966, she was employed in the office at Toeller’s Department Store. In later years, Penny worked at BTG and McDonalds.

Penny married Joseph P. Dembski on April 6, 1968. The two of them had three children together. However, the marriage later ended in divorce. She was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek, except for a period when her then husband, Joseph, was in the U.S. Army (1968-1971). At that time, the two of them lived in Arlington, Virginia.

She was a caregiver to her terminally ill father until his passing. Penny enjoyed sitting outdoors chatting with her neighbors. She also enjoyed making jewelry.

Penny is survived by her daughter, Wendi (Eric III) Ivany of Battle Creek; sons, Christopher (Michelle) Dembski of Battle Creek and Paul (Janine) Dembski of Leslie, Michigan; 3 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; multiple great grandchildren; sister, Carol and former husband, Joseph.

In accordance with Penny’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at Baxter Funeral & Cremation, 375 West Dickman, Battle Creek, April 24, 2021 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The family asks people in attendance wear bright and cheerful colored clothing; things that made Penny smile were Mickey Mouse, U of M, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Lions.
