Obituary for Phyllis Ann Hadden (Simens)

Phyllis Ann Hadden, 76, of Battle Creek, Michigan (formerly of Olivet, MI) passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Bronson Battle Creek. She was born on August 29, 1941, the daughter of Noah Milton Simens and Lillian Ann (Meyer) Simens.

Phyllis was a nurse for over 50 years. This was something she was pleased with and would often tell of how there were no computers when she got her nursing license and she had to write for three days to take her state boards. She worked in many different areas of nursing from home health care to infants and also geriatrics. She brought comfort and hope to countless patients she came in contact with. She also sacrificed a lot of her time and it brought her exceeding joy to care for her husband and both of her parents so they could remain at home. Phyllis loved playing the piano, especially at church. Her favorite things to play were “the old hymns” and the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Phyllis was a member of the Marshall Seventh-day Adventist church and enjoyed memorizing the Bible and witnessing to all she came in contact with. She would have cards with encouraging Bible verses to give to the cashier at Meijer, someone at the laundry mat or whenever she felt someone needed encouragement.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter Rachel Ann Prell of Battle Creek, MI; son Daniel (Ai) Hadden of Yokosuka, Japan; step-daughters Sheree (Patrick) Schroeder of Battle Creek and Kim (Mark) Nelson of Apopka, FL, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Noah Milton Simens, Mother Lillian Ann Simens, husband, Richard Eugene Hadden and son Gary Allen Clymer.
Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Thursday August 23, 2018 from 9:30am to 10:30am. Immediately following, a funeral service will be held at 10:30am with Pastor Ryan Counsell officiating.
Interment will take place in the Fort Custer National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Marshall Seventh-day Adventist Church.
