Obituary for Randy H. Ryan

Randy Hugh Ryan, 64, died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on July 16, 1956, to Theron Hugh and Linda Lou Ryan, he is survived by his loving father, Theron; sister, Susan Long; daughter, Randia Ryan and grandchildren, Mackenzie Tollefson and Ryan Tollefson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda.

Randy was born in Battle Creek Michigan and attended Urbandale Elementary, Woodrow Junior High School and Lakeview High School. He worked as a cook for a number of years at the Spa Steak House. He moved to Indiana to attend ITT Technical Institute to study automotive engineering. Randy worked in the automotive field for a while in Indiana and Tennessee. He later returned to Battle Creek and worked in manufacturing at Denso, Hi-Lex and Systex until August 2019 when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Randy enjoyed cooking, playing chess, working on automobiles and listening to music. Randy’s motto was “it is what it is.” He never let his circumstance get him down. He lived fully in the moment accepting what life brought his way even when facing cancer he said, “you can’t keep a good Irishman down.” Randy’s tremendous courage in facing his final days greatly inspired those who knew him.

Randy was a kind and loving son, brother, father, friend, and a true gentleman. Randy enjoyed growing plants and acquired a new passion for trying different foods including buffalo, bar-b-queing burgers and steaks in his final days. He lived fully until the end. Randy had a keen wit, great smile and laugh that he shared with everyone he met, and he always lifted others spirits with his playful, witty and fun discourse. He will be greatly missed!
