Obituary for Richard Fox

Richard K. Fox passed away Sunday, August 5 at Evergreen Manor. He was born March 26, 1932 to Eugene and Clio Mae (Harrison) Fox in Battle Creek, Michigan. Despite being born with cerebral palsy and contracting polio as an infant, he had an insurmountable drive and spirit. Doctors told his parents he would never walk, but he proved them wrong when he started walking at the age of nine and maintained an active lifestyle until the last few months of life. He worked for Goodwill Industries for over 30 years and he sold newspapers on Sunday outside Eagle’s Drug in Postumville for many years. Affectionately known around town as “Foxy”, he attended every home football and basketball game he was able for his alma mater, Battle Creek Central, where he graduated in 1953. He was passionate about his love for BCCHS Bearcats sports, Detroit sports (Tigers, Lions and Pistons) as well as University of Michigan football and basketball.
He is preceded in death by both parents and sisters Yetiva Vine, Beverley Golyer, Yvette “Betty” Schuder, Jeritza “Jerry” (Morris) Feder, Carmelita “Connie” (Roger) Heywood, and brother Garland R Fox. He is survived by one sister, Natalie Brown of Battle Creek and Arizona, in-laws Robert Schuder and Geraldine Fox, and four generations of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, Foxy would love donations to go to “BCCHS Gridiron” or “BCCHS Baseball Program”.
A visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon.
