Richard “Rich” Walter Reed, 49, passed away Tuesday March 27, 2012. Rich was born on May 11, 1962, in Battle Creek, the son of Richard Dale Reed and Johnnie Ruth (Carpenter) Reed. Rich attended Lakeview schools, graduating in 1980. He attended KCC where he received a degree in Criminal Justice. Rich worked as a police officer in Battle Creek and Port Orange, FL. He later was employed with Kellogg’s Co. until becoming disabled.

He is survived by his mother, Johnnie Reed-Stults; step-father, Roger L. Stults; sisters, Denise Ann Karis of Battle Creek, Terry L. Reed of Sanford, FL; nephew, Brandon N. Karis of Los Alamos, NM; and niece, Courtney A. Karis of Battle Creek. Rich was preceded in death by his father, Richard Dale Reed.

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends at Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Tuesday April 10, 2012 from 10-11AM. A memorial service will follow at 11AM with Minister Josh Hydrick officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or the charity of one’s choice.
