Obituary for Robert John Bradley

Robert “Bob” J. Bradley, 93, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away surrounded by his loving family Aug. 10, 2017, at Glenn Arbor Hospice Care.

Bob was born in Peru, IL on March 27, 1924 to Clarence W. Bradley and Jeanette M (Wacker) Bradley.

He joined the U.S. Army in March of 1943. He had assignments in Germany, France and Czechoslovakia as a communications expert. Citations received during his time of service include: American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal.

Bob worked for a small cable company after leaving the service in March of 1947. He and his wife, Socorro (Gomez) Bradley, moved to Battle Creek in 1967. He received a degree in electronics. He retired from AT&T after 30 years of service.

He is survived by Socorro; three children, Robert C. Bradley, Cynthia (Bradley) Buford, James S. (Jill) Bradley; four grandchildren, Lynette Landry (Caleb), Thomas J. Buford (Charniece), Jordan M. Bradley, and Jackson J. Bradley; and three great-grandchildren, Atticus Landry, Calixte Landry and Shea Landry, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son John W. Bradley; his mother and father; his brothers, Clarence W. Bradley and Carl F. Bradley; sisters, Lola B. Cox, Luella J. Cast, Betty J. Jenkins, Jeanette M. Traverse and Barbara A. Corsale.

In his youth, he participated with the Boy Scouts. Contemplative and steadfast, Bob was a man of few words. He knew how to enjoy the simple things in life; a hearty scoop of ice cream, watching birds in his sprawling backyard, and Bonanza.

While the family is mourning the loss of their patriarch, they are grateful to know that Bob is at peace; “It’s about time,” he would say.
