Obituary for Robert Otis Ellison

Robert O. Ellison, 88, of Battle Creek, MI passed away on July 18, 2014. He was born to the late Ralph J. Ellison and Lily Marie (Wiberg) Ellison on May 2, 1926 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Bob graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1944. After graduation Bob worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Bob then served in the Army Air Corp until 1947. Following the service, Bob continued to work for the U.S.P.S. until he retired as Three Rivers Postmaster in 1985.
Bob was a member of the VFW Post in Augusta and was a Trustee at Bethlehem Baptist Church. In his leisure time Bob loved to read, golf, bowl, garden, collect stamps and coins, hunt and fish.
Bob married the late Virginia Mae Newhouse in 1947, and had three daughters. He later married Elizabeth (Betty) Louise Shirley in 1991. Bob is survived by his wife, Betty. He is also survived by three daughters, Patricia Ann (David) Musall of Kalamazoo; Kathryn Ann (Robert) Boniface of Plainwell; and Barbara Ann (Richard) Black of Tennessee, along with two step-sons, David (Rhonda) Shirley of Augusta, and Tom (Amy) Shirley of Battle Creek. He is further survived by 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 W. Dickman Rd, on Thursday, July 24, 2014, 2:30 PM.
