Obituary for Robert Clarence Grant

On Friday, January 31, 2020, the Lord saw it fit to call into eternal rest, Robert C. Grant.
Robert was born on October 19, 1941 at Leila Hospital in Battle Creek, the son of Alonzo W. Grant Jr. and Jane Dempsey.
Robert was a 1959 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. After high school, he worked as a Nurses Assistant from 1960-1961 at the VA Hospital in Battle Creek. Following his time at the VA, he joined the US Army in 1961 and became an Emergency Medical Specialist. In 1965, he completed Clinical Specialist School and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. He worked as a Medical Corpsman and Clinical Specialist until 1976. For the next four years, he worked as a Transplant Coordinator Procurement Technician. Robert was promoted to the rank of Sergeant First Class. He became an Organ Procurement Transplant Coordinator at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC. In 1981, after 20 dedicated years to the Army, Robert retired. He then became a Manager for the Transplant Resource Center for the state of Maryland. In 1999, he retired again. After years at home in Maryland, Robert decided to go back to work at Kohl's. He just wanted to help people again and stay busy. In 2015, he moved back to Battle Creek to be around family.
He is preceded in death by his Father, Alonzo W. Grant and Mother, Lola Jane Dempsey.
Robert leaves to cherish a devoted Wife, Judy Grant; Sisters, Patricia Howard, Phylliss Smith; Son, Robert (Voncie) Grant; Daughter, Christina Powers; Step-Mother, Mabel Griffin; Step-Brother, Duane Griffin; Niece, Sheila Butler; Nephew, Jon Howard; Grandsons, Zack (Veronica) Powers, Grant Powers, Robert Grant, Robert Grant III, Rodney Grant; Granddaughters, Ashley Powers, Maya Towers, Catrina Marie Powers, 15 Great-Grandchildren and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral and Cremation Service on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 9:30 to 10:30 am, with the funeral service starting at 10:30 am.
Interment will take place following the service at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
