Obituary for Roger Lee Sims

Roger Lee Sims "Sparkie", 66, passed away, February 6, with family by his side.
He was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek. Roger retired from Grand Trunk after a 37 year railroad career. He was an avid fisherman and serious hunter. In 1979, he held a Michigan record for a 12 point buck he shot with his bow and arrow. He spent many years investing in local youth, serving as a Cub Scout leader, soccer coach, and 13 years with the youth dart league.
The greatest joy of his life was being Papa to his six granddaughters. He was the happiest spending time with his family and friends. Roger was an animated storyteller and prankster, and always ready with a joke. He was a great cook and loved cooking for everyone. Roger was a proud man who loved his entire family fiercely, and especially loved going above and beyond for the children in the family.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, William Sims and Airetta LaRene Nash, John and Marge Reynolds; Siblings, David Sims, William Sims, David Reynolds, Theresa Kellogg; Daughter, Demarice Matthies; Granddaughter, Lainey Kreger.
Roger is survived by his beloved Wife, Crystal; Children, Michel (Betsey) Sims, Angela (Damion) Kreger, James Sims; Granddaughters, Mallory and Lucy Sims, Kennedy, Addison and Sydney Kreger, Alecia Page; Siblings, Mary Luckeydoo, Danny (Candy) Sims, Lyleen (Denny) Still, Delos (Noni) Nash, Gloria (Dale) Frye, Richard (Cathy) Reynolds, Billy Reynolds, Thomas (Patti) Kellogg, Dion Kellogg; Ex-Wife and Friend, Lila Sims; Best Friends, Al Trim, Charlie "Hawk" Hawkins; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral and Cremation on Thursday, February 11 from 4-7 pm, with a private funeral for the family will be held on Friday, February 12.
The service will be live-streamed for all those that are unable to attend.
