Obituary for Sharon Lee Anderson

Sharon Lee Anderson, 77, passed away on November 17, in Battle Creek, Michigan. She was born in Battle Creek on January 11, 1945, the daughter of Lloyd “Andy” Anderson and Geraldine (Thompson) Anderson.

Sharon often stated that she had the perfect childhood and loved her school years at Lakeview. In 1962 she married Ronald Shipman. Together they had two children. In 1968 the family moved to Sanford, NC. Sharon quickly became an active member of the community, especially enjoying her time volunteering with the Jaycees.

Following the end of her marriage in 1979, Sharon and her children returned to Battle Creek, and she began what would become a 30-year career at Meijer. She loved working with people and “being where the action was.” She was known for being cheerful and outgoing by her coworkers and customers.

In her spare time Sharon loved to hang out with “her girls”, her granddaughters Sarah and Hannah. Being their “Gram” was one of her greatest joys in life.

After her retirement from Meijer in 2009 Sharon moved to Stuart, Florida, which she often referred to as Paradise. She made many wonderful friends that she considered family. After a few years she met her “Prince Charming, "Bill Coddington. Sharon and Bill enjoyed countless activities together in Stuart and traveled the world seeing places such as Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, Germany, London and Italy. Sharon loved her life in Florida and often said “I am so happy that I still pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming”.

Sadly, due to illness, Sharon moved back to Battle Creek where she passed within a few months.

Sharon is survived by her loving companion, Bill Coddington; son, Gary (Lori Lynn) Shipman; daughter, Lori (Dave) Huling; granddaughter, Sarah (Thayne) Asaro; granddaughter, Hannah (Michael) Whaples; mother-in-law, Gwen Shipman; sister-in-law, Carol Rowell and several nieces and nephews, including Dawn (DeLand) Cain who was like a daughter to her.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, November 30, at 11:30 a.m. at Woodland Church, 14425 Helmer Rd S, Battle Creek, MI.

As an alternative to flowers, donations may be made in Sharon’s memory to Elara Caring Hospice Foundation either online at elaracaringhospicefoundation.com or mail a check to PO Box 58, Jackson, MI, 49204.
